Hair growth requirements:
For the best results, hair should be about 3–4 weeks of growth or at least ¼–1 inch long (about the length of a grain of rice).
Growth cycles vary by individual. Your shaving or waxing history can affect how quickly hair grows back, so plan your appointment accordingly.
Why waxing over shaving:
Shaving only removes hair at the surface, which means stubble can return in just 1–3 days.
Waxing removes the hair from the root — you’ll notice the tiny white bulbs at the end of the follicle. This gives you smooth, hair-free skin for weeks instead of days.
Exfoliation prep:
Exfoliate gently 1–2 days before your appointment using a dry brush, body scrub, or exfoliating mitt.
This removes dead skin cells, helps prevent ingrown hairs, and ensures hair lifts cleanly during waxing.
Avoid exfoliating the day of your service to prevent irritation.
Hygiene tip:
Please shower before your appointment. This keeps the process clean, sanitary, and more comfortable for both client and esthetician.
On your cycle:
Yes, you can absolutely wax while on your period. Simply wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup before your service.
Sensitivity may be slightly higher during this time — that’s completely normal, and nothing to feel embarrassed about.

To achieve the smoothest results and protect your skin after waxing, it’s important to follow these steps:
First 24–48 hours:
Avoid pools, hot tubs, saunas, tanning, and direct sun exposure.
Skip sex, workouts, or any activity that causes sweating and friction — this prevents irritation and bacteria entering open follicles.
Wear loose, breathable clothing to let your skin recover.
Soothe & hydrate:
Use calming post-care products right after your service. At Sphynx Wax Studio, we provide everything you need: Kitty Lotion to hydrate and soothe, Kitty Cure for pesky ingrowns, and serums to calm sensitivity.
Exfoliation (start 72 hours post-wax):
Gently exfoliate 2–3 times per week to prevent ingrown hairs and discoloration.
Rotate methods: dry brushing once weekly, and Kitty Serum 2x per week, spacing them 2–3 days apart.
Exfoliation not only keeps skin smooth but also helps reduce hyperpigmentation over time.
For clients seeking extra help with hyperpigmentation: Ask about our Skin Script Retinol and Glycolic Toner Pads. They can be purchased in-house or ordered personally and delivered directly to you for continued home care.
Consistency is key:
Schedule your wax every 4–5 weeks depending on your growth cycle.
With consistent waxing, hair regrows thinner, softer, and more sparse. Over time, your maintenance routine becomes easier and results last longer.
At Sphynx, we believe your wax is only half the experience — how you care for your skin afterward is what keeps it glowing, smooth, and healthy.

Avoid heavy exercise or activities that cause sweating for at least 24 hours.

Prior to your waxing appointment, you should have about 3–4 weeks of hair growth. A minimum length of ¼ inch to 1 inch of hair is required for hair removal services (at least the length of a grain of rice). Three to four weeks is the average amount of time it should take for enough hair to be present for removal by your esthetician; however, it depends on the individual. Your current shaving or wax routine may affect your hair growth timeline differently. Please schedule your appointment accordingly.
